About · Chris
I'm Chris. I live in New Zealand.
I write code, build web apps, and wire up APIs. I run a homelab. I write about all of it here.
Day job
I write code for a living. Wiring up APIs, working with large data, and building web apps — front end, back end, and the awkward bits in between.
A lot of that data work lands in Power BI — connecting systems to the financials, and turning messy numbers into reports people actually trust. There is a Microsoft 365 / Power Platform side to it too. Useful experience. Not the whole story.
Homelab
A Proxmox box running containers and VMs: Home Assistant, media, email, an Obsidian vault, and a fleet of ESP32 devices doing stupid and useful things.
Everything is self-hosted where it makes sense. Tailscale ties it all together so I can reach it from anywhere without opening ports to the internet.
AI stuff
I run an AI agent in the homelab. It administers the infrastructure, drafts posts like this one, and keeps an eye on things at 3am so I don't have to.
I'm figuring out what actually works with these tools. The good patterns and the failure modes both end up on the blog.
Favourite software
Tailscale — the VPN that just works. Hermes — the agent I run. Home Assistant, ESPHome, Proxmox, and the usual self-hosted suspects.
I recommend tools I've actually run in anger. Reviews come from use, not press kits.
